I am working jointly with the California Department of Water Resources (DWR) and the Genomic Variation Lab (GVL) to develop field-deployable SHERLOCK assays for real-time genetic identification of Chinook salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha) seasonal run-types in the San Francisco Bay-Delta region. This cutting-edge technology will allow resource-management specialists with no genetic training to identify genetic stocks of Chinook salmon in under an hour using only battery-powered equipment, informing and enhancing the conservation of this commercially and ecologically important species.
